North Berwick West Links Open Qualifying Course

Formed in 1832, The North Berwick Golf Club is a Championship course that’s hosted many high-profile events, including the Final Qualifying for The Open Championships on six occasions.

Golf has been played across this linksland long before the Club was formed, making it one of the most historic in Scotland. Only the R&A has played across its land for longer. The course offers plenty of challenges: the sea is in play on six holes while hazard walls on fairways and in front of greens will test both player creativity and skill. Sometimes wet, often windy, always enjoyable, the course’s challenges add to its charm, playing an important part in its development over the years.

North Berwick’s East Links

The East Links at North Berwick enjoy impressive golfing credentials. Golf was first played here in the 17th century, with a nine-hole course created in 1894. The course was extended to 18 holes in 1906, designed by five times Open Champion James Braid and his design partner Ben Sayers. Suiting players of all abilities, the course is challenging but fair. The Glen is an all-year-round course, rarely closed, playing normal greens and tees throughout the year.

The Renaissance Club

Founded in 2008, The Renaissance Club is a younger member of Scotland’s Golf Coast family. However, the course has already hosted five Scottish Opens (2019–2023), with the Championship returning again in July 2024. Renowned course architect Tom Doak designed its links, which provide a fair test for all golfers. A scenic Halfway House and breath-taking views over the Firth of Forth make The Renaissance Club a truly pleasurable course to play. It boasts a fantastic practise area, too.

Craigielaw, Aberlady

Boasting a challenging 18-hole championship course and only 30 minutes’ drive from Edinburgh, Craigielaw offers accommodation, restaurant, shop and of course, a first-class golfing experience. Designed by Donald Steel, Craigielaw keeps good company, surrounded by a further 22 courses including world-renowned Muirfield, North Berwick and Gullane.

Gullane – Courses No 1, No 2 & No 3

A jewel on Scotland’s Golf Coast, the links at Gullane have been played for over 350 years. Today’s Gullane ranks as one of the most prestigious of Scotland’s members’ clubs, offering players some of the most admired and challenging natural linksland in the world. Its superb turf and climate enable golf all year round, offering players an incredible setting to test their skills. Visitors can choose from courses No 1 (created 1884), No 2 (1898) or No 3 (1910), numbered to reflect their age.

Muirfield Open Championship Course – Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.

Muirfield had a peripatetic start: it began in Leith in 1744, moved on to Musselburgh and finally came to stay in Muirfield in 1891, the same year its Clubhouse was built. Originally designed by Old Tom Morris, the course layout has remained largely unaltered since 1926 and has been cleverly designed so that every round features holes played both against and with a following wind.
It’s a renowned venue for major Championship events, having hosted an impressive 16 Open Championships.

Fidra Course – Archerfield Links

The 18-hole Fidra Links is a unique mixture of pine forest and fast-running links, making it quite different from other courses on Scotland’s Golf Coast. It was originally created in the mid-19th century, adapted from 13 holes to 18 holes in 1910 and remained popular until the outbreak of WW2, after which it fell into disuse.

A new lease of life was breathed into the course in 2001 when it was bought by businessman Kevin Doyle, with course design by David ‘DJ’ Russell. Although a relatively young course, its proven hugely popular and is holding its own amongst some seriously impressive names. Its Archerfield Performance Centre offers coaching and fitting, helping players reach their maximum potential.

Goswick Links – An Open Qualifying Course
