Scotland
St Andrews
Known worldwide as the “Home of Golf”, St Andrews has been a must-visit golf destination for well over a century. The linksland is challenging, the views are magnificent and nature is most certainly in play throughout this unique landscape.
Home Course: The Old Course
The course that started it all. The Old Course at St Andrews is golf’s oldest and most iconic, imbued with 600 years of history. Despite its prestige, it remains a public course, open to all. Hallowed turf indeed, as hotel neighbours go.
North Berwick
Boasting 21 Scottish courses along 30 miles of breathtaking coastal terrain, East Lothian is a must for any discerning golf traveller. Home to the Scottish Open since 2019, the area offers a rich variety of courses – from ancient and revered turf to lesser-known hidden gems.
Home Course: North Berwick Golf Club – West Links
The Club was officially formed in 1832, but golf was played across this linksland long before then, making it one of the most historic courses in Scotland. Sometimes wet, often windy but always enjoyable, the West Links’ challenges add to its charm.
Dornoch
The Scottish Highlands offer bracing fresh air and landscapes unlike any other, making the perfect setting for a round or two. In Sutherland and beyond, you’ll find a range of fascinating courses.
Home Course: Royal Dornoch Golf Club
Wild and isolated, the spellbinding Royal Dornoch Golf Club is a bucket list course for many golfers. Founded in 1877 – though records show golf was played here as early as 1616 –, it’s one of Scotland’s finest championship courses.
Troon
Ayrshire’s Clyde Coast is home to around 50 golf courses, including Royal Troon’s famous Old Course and Prestwick Golf Club, fondly known as the “Birthplace of The Open”.
Home Course: Royal Troon Golf Club
A nine-time Open Championship venue, Royal Troon Golf Club was founded in 1878. This traditional out and back links course is recognised for challenging play, particularly Hole 8, also known as the infamous “Postage Stamp”.
Northern Ireland
Newcastle
County Down is home to around 30 golf courses, including Royal County Down’s Championship Links, which is regarded as one of the finest in the world, consistently ranking among the top courses globally.
